Artsreach is the arts development agency for rural Dorset. Artsreach provides a wide ranging programme of professional arts events for local people and families at affordable prices, working in collaboration with a network of voluntary local promoters based in the rural community.
These include:
A touring programme of professional performances (including drama, music, dance, literature and film) co-promoted with rural communities in local venues
A visual arts programme, commissioning innovative work and touring high-quality contemporary exhibitions to rural venues
Creative children’s activities during the summer holidays and shows and participatory workshops for children and all the family throughout the year
Professional and innovative project work, which responds to the needs and interests of rural communities – this includes a programme of artists in residence
The provision of an arts information, advice and advocacy service for rural Dorset.
Artsreach is a vital part of the overall provision of arts in rural Dorset. Isolation and poor transport links mean that many of its audiences rely on the Artsreach programme for access to high-quality performances, exhibitions and participatory activities. The Artsreach team: Ian Scott – Director, Angie Green – Assistant Director, Yvonne Gallimore – Visual Arts Co-ordinator, Rachel Hargreaves – Publicity and Projects Officer.
Artsreach works with rural communities offering a programme of professional arts events from which the rural communities select the events they would like to promote in their Village Halls in partnership with Artsreach. Village promoters are keen to serve the whole of their community, consequently a very high proportion of the performances programmed by Artsreach are suitable for family audiences.
Village Halls themselves tend to be accessible to family audiences with easy parking, buggy friendly access, play area in the adjoining fields. Each hall is of course different and can be contacted for details.
Artsreach promotes the arts in rural communities so members of the community do not have to travel long distances to participate in events, and in many cases can walk to the event.
Ticket prices are kept at very affordable levels. Children¹s and family tickets are generally offered at appropriate shows.
Artsreach publishes seasonal brochures of its programme (approximately 150 shows, 50 workshops). Additional details about exhibitions and projects are available from the office or on the Artsreach website. Contact Artsreach to be added to the free mailing list.
The Artsreach office is in Dorchester and is usually open during standard office hours.
